Citizenship in Heaven Gives Us A New Home

Paul says, “Our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). That was a strong word for the church in Philippi. Many people there felt proud to be Roman citizens. They lived in Philippi, but they honored Rome.

Paul uses that idea to teach a greater truth. Christians live on earth, but we belong to heaven. Jesus is our King. Heaven is our true home.

Citizenship in heaven changes how we see life. This world is not all we have. Our pain will not last forever, nor will our bodies stay weak forever. Our tears will not fall forever.

That does not mean we ignore life on earth. We still work, and continue to serve. We still love our families, and help our neighbors. But we do all these things as people who belong to Jesus first.

Life comes in seasons. Some seasons feel fresh, like spring. Other seasons feel warm and joyful, like summer. Some seasons bring change, like fall. Hard seasons can feel cold and empty, like winter.

Yet God works in every season. He did that with Moses and with Paul. He does that with us too.

Philippians 3:20 also says, “from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Christians do not wait for a plan. We wait for a Person. We wait for Jesus.

Jesus said, “I will come again and receive you to Myself” (John 14:3). That promise gives hope. The Lord who died for us will come back for us.

Citizenship in Heaven Gives Us Future Glory

Paul says Jesus “will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory” (Philippians 3:21). That means Jesus will change our weak bodies. He will make them like His risen body.

This truth gives great comfort. Our bodies get tired, sick and grow old. One day, our bodies die. But death does not get the last word.

First Corinthians 15:52 says, “The dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” Jesus rose from the grave. Because He lives, His people will live too.

Citizenship in heaven helps us honor God with our bodies now. We do not use our bodies only for sin or selfish pleasure. We belong to Christ. So we seek to live in a way that pleases Him.

Paul says Jesus has power to “subject all things to Himself” (Philippians 3:21). That means nothing can stop Him. Sin cannot stop Him. Death cannot stop Him. Satan cannot stop Him. The whole world belongs under His rule.

Revelation 21:4 gives a beautiful picture of our future. God “will wipe away every tear.” There will be no more death, no more crying, and no more pain.

Then God says, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5). That is not a weak hope. That is a sure promise from the King of heaven.

So how should we live now? We should stay ready. We should serve God with glad hearts.

First Thessalonians 4:16-17 says the Lord will come from heaven. The dead in Christ will rise first. Then living believers will meet the Lord. After that, we will always be with Him.

Paul says, “Comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:18). Bible prophecy should not make us panic. It should give us peace. It should also wake us up.
