Hidden Treasures in Christ Give Us True Wisdom

People love treasure. Some look for gold. Others look for old coins. Many dream about finding a rare item at a yard sale. A small thing may turn out to have great worth. That can feel fun and exciting.

Yet earth’s treasure does not last. Money can leave us. Gold can stay behind. Houses can fall apart. Even rich people leave all they own when they die. Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth” (Matthew 6:19). Then He told us to store up treasure in heaven.

Paul talks about better treasure in Colossians 2. He says that in Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3). This means Jesus holds the best treasure of all. Jesus gives us truth about God while showing us how to live. In addition, He offers hope that lasts forever.

The Mystery of Christ Revealed

Paul cared deeply for the church in Colossae. He had not met many of them face to face. Still, he prayed and worked for them. Colossians 2:1 says he had a “great struggle” for them. That means he carried them in his heart. He wanted them to stand strong.

Then Paul said he wanted their hearts to feel strong and brave. He wanted them “knit together in love” (Colossians 2:2). That means God’s people need each other. Love helps the church stay close. Truth helps the church stay safe.

Next, Paul says God’s mystery is Christ. In the Bible, a mystery does not mean a puzzle no one can solve. It means God has now shown something great. God has shown us Jesus. Jesus shows us who God is.

John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh.” That means Jesus, the Son of God, came as a real man. Christ came to save us and reveal the Father, ultimately bringing us back to God.

The hidden treasures in Christ give us wisdom. Wisdom means more than facts. A person may know many facts and still make bad choices. Wisdom means we know God’s truth and live by it.

Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.” To fear the Lord means we honor Him. We listen to Him. We trust Him more than we trust the world.

Hidden Treasures in Christ Keep Us Safe

Paul gives a clear warning in Colossians 2:4. He says, “I say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive argument.” A persuasive argument can sound smart. It can sound kind. It can sound new and fresh. Still, it can lead us away from Jesus.

False words can trick people. Some say we do not need God. Others say we can make our own truth. Many tell us to follow our heart. Yet Jeremiah 17:9 says the heart can fool us. We need God’s Word to guide us.

Jesus prayed, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). That verse helps us stand firm. God does not change. His truth does not fade. His Word gives light when life feels dark.

Standing Firm on God’s Power

Some people trust only what they can see. Others trust only what people say. But God made all things. He made the sun, moon, stars, earth, and people. He also made our hearts beat. We need Him for every breath.

Paul wanted the church to know Jesus well. A strong church does not chase every new idea. It holds tightly to Christ. It tests each idea by God’s Word.

1 Corinthians 2:5 says our faith should not rest “on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.” Human wisdom can shift each year. God’s power never fails. His truth holds firm in every age.

So we must ask good questions. Does this idea honor Jesus and agree with the Bible? Furthermore, will it lead me to love God more and help me obey Christ?

When we know Jesus, false words lose power. Reading the Bible makes truth grow clear, while prayer helps our hearts stay alert. Walking with other believers also gives us essential help and care.

The world offers many treasures. Some shine for a short time. Only Jesus gives treasure that lasts. In Him we find wisdom, truth, joy, peace, and life forever.
