Go With Purpose After the Resurrection
When Jesus rose from the dead, He did more than show power. He gave His followers a task. Many people ask, “Why am I here?” Some wonder, “Does my life matter?” The risen Lord answers these deep cries. He gives clear steps for every believer. Matthew 28:16–20 holds this well known command. We call it the Great Commission. In it, He calls us to go with purpose after the resurrection and live for something bigger than ourselves.
What It Means to Go With Purpose After the Resurrection
The eleven disciples went to a mountain in Galilee. Jesus had told them to meet Him there. They saw Him and bowed. Matthew 28:17 notes that some still doubted. He did not push them away. Instead, He came close and spoke. Verse 18 says, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Authority stands at the core of this call. Jesus does not send us in our own strength. He sends us under His rule as King of all.
Because He holds all power, He then says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations” (Matthew 28:19). The word “go” carries motion. Faith does not sit still. It moves toward people. It crosses streets and seas. A disciple is more than a fan. A disciple learns, follows, and obeys. Jesus calls us to help others follow Him. We do not just point to a church. We walk with real people as they grow in Him and learn to obey His word.
To go with purpose after the resurrection, we must see how Jesus breaks this down. He speaks of baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism marks new life. It shows union with Christ in His death and rising again (Romans 6:3–4). He also says to teach them to obey all that He commanded. Teaching fills the mind and shapes the heart. We pass on what we have learned when we share the Word of God. We open the Bible with others and help them see Christ in every page.
The Great Commission: Purpose After the Resurrection
From Genesis to Revelation, God cares about the nations. In Genesis 12:3, He told Abraham that all families on earth would be blessed through his seed. Jesus, the seed of Abraham, now sends us to those families. Every tribe, tongue, and culture matters to Him. He wants worshipers from every land. Revelation 7:9 shows a great crowd from all nations standing before the throne. Our small acts of love and truth today feed into that huge picture of glory.
As we go with purpose after the resurrection, we must also hear the last line of the Great Commission. Jesus says, “And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). He does not send us alone. His Spirit lives in every believer. John 14:16–17 shows this promise. The Helper, the Holy Spirit, stays with us and in us. So when we speak to a neighbor or friend about Christ, we do not speak by ourselves. He stands near. He works in hearts as we share simple, honest words.
Life in our world feels dark at times. War, hate, and lies fill the news. Many chase hope in false saviors. Some trust leaders who fail them. Others cling to money or power that fades. In this broken age, the risen Christ still calls His people to go with purpose after the resurrection. We carry the only news that lifts souls forever. Jesus died for sin, rose from the grave, and now offers full pardon to all who turn to Him and trust His name.
The Great Commission In Our Daily Lives
This call fits simple lives. You can pray for lost people by name, and can tell someone what Jesus did for you. You can read Scripture with your kids at the table. Also, you can serve the poor in His name, and can support workers who take the gospel to hard places. Every act done in faith counts. Each step of bold love joins the great work of God and echoes into eternity.
Christ rose in a borrowed tomb long ago. He left that grave with scars that still speak mercy. He now reigns at the Father’s right hand. Until He returns, He sends us out. So we must go with purpose after the resurrection. He holds all power. He stays with us always. We can trust Him, obey Him, and help others know Him, one day at a time, in every place He leads.
